European Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis officially inaugurates the kick-off meeting of the EU Platform on Animal Welfare.

Organic pig producers, abattoirs and organisations related to animal welfare have signed a new agreement that will further improve the pigs’ welfare and their environmental impact. This agreement sets more requisites and regulations and will give place to an E-brand that will come into force in January 1st 2018.

EFSA experts have examined issues surrounding the slaughter of pregnant farmed animals in Europe.

According to the results of the last Survey on Environmental Conscience presented by the Federal Minister of the Environment in Berlin, when buying meat, the German citizens give more importance to the aspects related to animal welfare than to those related to the environment.

This arrangement reconfirms the Commission's engagement to cooperate with trading partners on animal welfare .
