We are pleased to introduce a new section, “Colibacillosis in Pig Production”. Escherichia coli is the cause of several diseases in pigs, including diarrhoea and oedema disease in piglets, which have a major economic impact.
Over the next 12 months we'll post 10 items that will update our knowledge of these diseases. E. coli in animals are ubiquitous and, although some types of E. coli are normal inhabitants of the intestine, other strains may cause several distinct clinical pictures.
The list of major syndromes caused by E. coli in pigs should include: neonatal colibacillosis, postweaning colibacillosis, oedema disease, colisepticaemia, coliform mastitis and urinary tract infections.
Contributing authors include, but are not limited to: Steven McOrist, Steve Dudley, Eric Cox and Margarida Mota.
You can now access the first article, by Steven McOrist entitled Escherichia coli Infections in Pigs (1 of 2)
