In order to attain a good census structure and an homogeneity in the productive batch it is paramount to control the entry of the replacement gilts. With this aim we have developed a new simulator that will help us to calculate the entry of sows when starting a farm, when increasing its sow census or when calculating the replacement rate in a farm that is already in operation.
The user must fill in all the boxes (number of sows, maximum number of farrowings, farrowings per sow per year, etc.) with the desired values.
Depending on the few data that we give to the simulator as, for instance, the parity at which the sow is culled, the farrowings per sow per year, or the farrowing index, the simulator will provide us with the replacement rate, and the farrowings and matings goals. The results also show us the number of gilts that we must enter each week or month. The number of matings, in the case of the gilts, that must be performed in order to accomplish the goal according to the expected fertility in the farm are also signalled.
