South Africa joins the growing list of pig prices posted on Pig333 from around the globe. South Africa has a pig inventory of 1.345 million (as of 2021) and alongside Nigeria represents the largest producer on the African continent.
For South Africa, we will publish the average producer price for the heavy baconer category of pigs (weighing 80-109.99 kg) provided by the South African Pork Producers’ Organisation (SAPPO). The producer price refers to the abattoir purchase price paid to the producer, per kg, for pork carcasses and excludes value-added tax (VAT), transportation, and commission.
