Goal
Saving money in heating during the weaners stage guaranteeing the thermal comfort of the piglets by creating two environments in the nursery stage defining an area for the nest and an outside area.
We are going to reduce the heating costs very much because now we will only take into account providing the piglets with the temperature that they wish in the cubic meters of air that are inside the nests, instead of heating all the air volume of the room. Now, the probe, instead of regulating the environment of the room regulates the environment in the nest.
Description
This farm has weaners stage rooms with a central corridor and 4 pens at each side (8 pens for 25 piglets each → 200 piglets per room). The heating is by means of a radiating floor, the feeding is by means of a hopper with dry feed, and the drinkers are cup drinkers.
The adaptation of the room has consisted of moving all the radiating floor to one side of the room, transforming all the room in a great weaners group and having only a closed pen as an infirmary.
We change the heating plates of one of the sides for the plastic slat beside the wall at the other side of the room. The front and the rear area parts that we do not use will serve to make up the lid of the nest.
We can even consider covering in some way the front part of the nest in order to keep the heat inside the nest better, although we can be left without the ability to see the animals that are resting inside.
The regulator in this room only received information from a probe that we have located in the nest, so the heating only turns on in order to maintain the desired temperature in the nest. The minimum ventilation guarantees the air quality in the room. The fuel consumption has lowered considerably and the animals are growing better.
We have only changed the location of the different pieces: the heating plates, the front areas and the temperature control probe! We have not even invested a single € because we did not have it. We have only invested time!
