Alasdair Macleod
Veterinary Consultant - Spain AuthorAlasdair has always been very involved in pig production, because he grew on a pig farm in Valencia. He worked on the farm during all his childhood and youth together with his father, a PhD from the University of Leeds and ex-technical manager in a well-known pig genetics company. Alasdair carried on with his education and graduated in Veterinary Medicine/Science from the University CEU - Cardenal Herrera (Valencia) in 2010, having studied for one year at the Technical University of Lisbon. He spent some time learning from the leading veterinarians in the pig sector in Spain, and after graduating he worked as the manager of the family farm.
By late 2010, he moved to the UK to work for a genetics company in Yorkshire, and in 2012 he joined the team of veterinarians at Garth Partnership. Alasdair moved to the north of Scotland to provide veterinary services to a pig production group specialised in the production of outdoor sows, and with time he developed a varied client portfolio, gaining experience in different production systems.
He married and had two children, and in 2018 he decided to return to Spain due to personal reasons and also to regain contact with the family farm. He currently combines this job with his work as a veterinary consultant, collaborating with Enric Marco in Spain through Marcovetgrup SL and still keeping ties with Garth Pig Practice Ltd in Scotland.
