Alessandro Gastaldo

Researcher at FCSR - Fondazione CRPA Studi Ricerche ETS since 1991. In the last 29 years, he has acquired technical skills in the swine industry in specifications and protocols with high animal welfare standards, with certification systems linked to aspects of ethics and economic and environmental sustainability of primary productions, with economic analysis related to the improvement of animal welfare in the various stages of the supply chain (breeding, transport, and slaughter).

He has participated as an expert on strict animal welfare standards in working groups, such as the “Animal Welfare Certification” proposed by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture, the “Tail docking” working group of the Ministry of Health and the working group on good practices related to pig breeding of the Parma Ham Consortium.

Since 1992 he has been a coordinator of research, experimentation, cooperation, and/or demonstration activities on topics such as animal welfare, technological innovation in animal husbandry, and sustainable and ethical livestock supply chains in at least 20 projects, and has collaborated in 60 other projects at European, Italian, and regional levels.

He also carries out technical consultancy activities for agribusinesses and consortia on product diversification related, in particular, to high animal welfare standards, biosecurity, and reduction of antibiotic use.

On behalf of the FCSR, he carries out teaching, dissemination, and technical-scientific diffusion activities, documented in his CV by more than 330 national and international publications and by numerous participations as a speaker in seminars, conferences, and training courses.
