Chantal Farmer
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) - Canada AuthorChantal Farmer is a research scientist in sow lactation biology with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada.
She has obtained her M.Sc. in Animal Science from the University of Saskatchewan (Canada) in 1982, and her Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University (USA) in Animal Industry in 1986. She has been at the Dairy and Swine Research and Development Centre in Sherbrooke since then and she has also been Associate Professor at Laval University since 1993. Her research goal is to increase sow milk yield and she has recently focussed on the control of mammary gland development. She has held numerous important professional positions, such as president of the Canadian Society of Animal Science and Editor-in-chief of the Canadian Journal of Animal Science.
She has won 2 awards, namely the “Award for technical innovation in enhancing production of safe affordable food” in 2003 from the Canadian Society of Animal Science and an Award from the American Society of Animal Science to cover travel expenses as a guest-speaker to the European Association of Animal Production (EAAP) annual meeting in the Hague, Netherlands.
Dr. Farmer has over 105 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and she has been invited to give presentations in Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Italy, Canada and the USA.
