Octagon Services - United Kingdom AuthorDavid Burch qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London University in 1972. After a further two years at the university he spent five years in practice and developed an interest in pig and poultry production and medicine. He joined the animal health industry in 1979 and developed the antibiotic tiamulin for pigs and poultry during the eighties and then valnemulin, the first EU approved medicated feed premix, during the nineties. In 1999 he set up his own consultancy company Octagon Services Ltd and works mainly in antimicrobial development and registration as well as vaccinology. He is a Diplomate of the European College of Porcine Health Management, visiting lecturer at Liverpool University’s Faculty of Veterinary Science where he teaches pig medicine. He also produced The Pig Journal (1998-2008) for the UK’s Pig Veterinary Society and is currently a past president and honorary member.
