Oligo Basics - United States AuthorJoan Torrent is the Global Technical Director and co-founder of Oligo Basics, a multinational feed additive company with offices in Brazil, the United States, and Spain.
Dr. Torrent received his Veterinary Science degree from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain) in 1988. He was awarded a “La Caixa” fellowship in 1989 and earned an M.S. (1992) and PhD (1994) in Animal Nutrition from Colorado State University (USA), where his research dealt with the kinetics of byproduct digestion in ruminants and on ruminal microbiology, focusing on ways to decrease methane production. Dr. Torrent has worked in research and development in different private companies in Europe and Latin America.
He is the coauthor of several articles in refereed journals involving the use of phytogenic compounds as alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters, and has been invited as a guest lecturer in venues such as the Alltech Symposium, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center Forum, or the International Seminar on Milk Quality in Medellín (Colombia).
Dr. Torrent has been awarded two international patents on the use of phytogenic compounds in animal feed and the Innocentive Challenge #5302250 (pH management in mucous epithelia). Finally, his research work has been featured in Research Outreach, a publication showcasing cutting edge research around the globe.
