Jordi Casal

Jordi Casal is a professor of Animal Health at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). He teaches Epidemiology and Health Policies. His research is focused on veterinary epidemiology, mainly in diseases transmission and epidemiological surveillance. Recently he has worked especially in transboundary animal diseases and biosecurity at farm level. He is the coordinator of the Swine conferences organized by UAB and the Associació de Veterinaris de Porcí de Catalunya.

Flu productive impact

There are many open topics, such as: 1) what is the impact of the disease in endemic situations at the reproductive level (irregular return to estrus / fertility), especially in gilts; or 2) what is the productive impact in farrowing units, especially when we know that suckling piglets can play a role as a reservoir of the virus in an endemically infected farm.
