Swine veterinarian and zootechnologist - Peru AuthorJosé Alberto Súarez graduated in 2012 from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine/Science and Zootechnology (Animal Husbandry) at the University of San Luis Gonzaga, in Ica-Perú.
During his years at university he obtained a Honours Degree.
With a 5-year experience in the sector, he was in charge of the Health Leadership at the Atahuampa PIC genetic nucleus and the production units at Granja Sinchi S.A., leader companies in pig production in Peru.
He is in charge of:
• The control and management of the health system for the studs, the multipliers and the production lines.
• The prevention and therapeutic programmes.
• The development and execution of the stabilisation and eradication of diseases with an economic and production impact.
• The contingency plans.
• He executes and supervises the imports of breeders and liquid genetics from the Canadian market to Peru.
• He is in charge of keeping in touch with the local and international authorities for the obtaining of health permits and authorisations.
• The search of opportunities for improvement in the different sections related to the production cycle.
He led PEDV (2014-2016) and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (2016-2017) control and eradication programmes.
In 2016, he published an abstract in the 24th International Pig Veterinary Society Congress (IPVS) 8th European Symposium of Porcine Health Management.
