He was born in 1950

He graduated as a DVM from the University of Veterinary Medicine of Hannover (Germany) in 1973.

He obtained his PhD in 1988.

Tenured Lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Bonn, Germany (1993-1999)

Professor (meat hygiene and inspection) at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the FU Berlin, Germany (2000-2015)

He retired from university teaching in 2015. He is now working as consultant.

Specialist in food safety in different food chains and surveillance systems.

Member of EU Scientific Committees.

Consultant in former communist Eastern European countries in food safety matters.

Experience in several countries in Southeast Asia, Africa and Europe.
