Raquel Quintanilla Aguado

Raquel Quintanilla Aguado is the head of the Genetics and Animal Breeding Program at IRTA and Coordinator of the Consolidated Research Group "Management and Improvement of Animal Genetic Resources" (DURSI, Generalitat de Catalunya) since 2014. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, prior to her incorporation into IRTA she was a Professor of Genetic Improvement at the Public University of Navarra, and researcher at the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique - INRAE (France). She has more than 20 years of experience in animal genetic improvement and statistical genetics applied to the study of complex traits. Her research activity in recent years has focused on improving production efficiency and product quality in swine together with the robustness and resilience of animals for more sustainable pig production systems. She has been the principal investigator and coordinator of four research projects of the National Plan and has participated in several European projects on feed efficiency, functional genomics, and improvement of immune capacity in swine.
