Susan E. Detmer
University of Saskatchewan - Canada AuthorDr. Susan Detmer is an assistant professor in the Department of Veterinary Pathology at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She earned her DVM degree in 2003 and her PhD in 2011 from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Detmer joined the University of Saskatchewan in her current role in August 2011. She has an extensive background in pathology, diagnostic testing and research, specializing in swine diseases.
Dr. Detmer teaches systemic pathology to second-year veterinary students, necropsy rotation to fourth-year veterinary students, and mammalian pathology to graduate students. The undergraduate and graduate students working with Dr. Detmer are studying molecular and phenotypical characterization of influenza A viruses, Brachyspira diarrhea, and PRRS virus infection in the pregnant gilt model.
In 2013, Dr. Detmer was awarded The Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., PRRS Research Award for her study “Pathologic evaluation of PRRS virus infection in fetal implantation sites”.
