Uladzimir Karniychuk
McMaster University - Canada AuthorUladzimir Karniychuk was born in Shklov, Belarus, on September 17th, 1981. In 1999, he began his study at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine, Belarus. In 2005, he obtained the university diploma with honours in specialty «Doctor of veterinary medicine».
Since November 2005 he began graduate study in Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Veterinary Medicine n. S.N. Wyshelessky of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, with a specialty in veterinary virology and epidemiology.
During May-August 2007 and February-May 2008, he made two visits to the Laboratory of Virology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University, Belgium to perform INTAS Young Scientist Fellowship project «The importance of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) as a cause of reproductive failure in sows in Belarus and strategy to prevent it».
In May 2008 he joined the Laboratory of Virology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University, where he started his doctor of philosophy (PhD) studies on PRRSV in pigs.
His studies were funded by the «Special Research Fund» (BOF), Ghent University. At present, he is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Pathology & Molecular Medicine, McMaster University, Canada and his project is focused on HIV-1 pathogenesis and prevention.
