ISU James D. McKean Swine Disease Conference

This year’s meeting will continue to strive to educate swine veterinarians in the issues that challenge swine producers across the US swine industry.

With the arrival of a new strain of PRRS virus (PRRS 1-4-4- Variant 1C), we are going to dedicate an afternoon session hearing from practitioners on what they have seen and learned as well as the diagnosticians and scientists who are studying this virus to see what we can learn together. We are also going to hear additional case studies from practitioners who are dealing with PCV2, Mycoplasma and vesicular diseases. Updates on sow mortality, pelvic organ prolapses and impact of growing pig biosecurity will also be presented. Lessons learned from the COVID supply chain disruption and how those lessons can help us be better prepared for a possible foreign animal disease incursion will also be covered.

Pre-conference sessions will be held on Wednesday November 3rd to provide additional help to practitioners on how to better design and execute field evaluations and judicious antibiotic use as well.

Conference goals

  • To enable swine practitioners to assist pork producers in a rapidly changing and global production environment.
  • To enhance practitioner decision-making tools in disease control, animal welfare, and food safety for the benefit of animals, clients and consumers.
