AnimineFor the first time jointly organised by the European College of Porcine Health management and the European Association of Porcine Health Management, the 4th European Symposium of Porcine Health management (ESPHM) will be held from 25-27 April 2012 in Bruges (Belgium). Currently considered as the reference conference on porcine health management in Europe, this symposium is attractive to anyone who is professionally active in pig production (practitioners, scientists, persons working in private companies, etc...). Animine takes this opportunity to present latest ex vivo data conducted at the Free University of Berlin (Institute of Animal Nutrition, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine). The study compared two sources of zinc oxide : an analytical grade, and the potentiated form HiZox. Chyme from the stomach and the jejunum of weaned piglets was collected and bacterial growth was measured in Zn supplemented media. Lag time for HiZox containing media in stomach samples was higher compared to regular ZnO, meaning that bacteria needed a prolonged time before the onset of exponential growth. HiZox is a new dietary tool in substitution of the pharmacological dosage of standard ZnO in the critical post weaning phase of piglets.
