The British Pig & Poultry Fair is set to galvanise the industry this month with a top line up of technical forums and key note speakers to help grow our businesses. It is an event any serious producer shouldn’t miss.
“The pig and poultry industry needs to remind itself and consumers, that it’s a great industry, delivering high quality British pork, poultry and eggs to exceptionally high welfare standards,” observes Malcolm Munro in advance of the British Pig & Poultry Fair on 13 and 14 May.
Malcolm is a communications specialist with a wealth of knowledge, who will present the forum, ‘Unlocking the power of media to grow our businesses’, at 11.30am on Tuesday 13 May. The industry leading event is hosted by the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE) and partnered by ABN.
The forum will offer an insight into how the media can be utilised to generate positive coverage about the way we produce British pork and poultry products, and correct the misinterpretations often made about the sectors. The ultimate aim is to drive consumer demand and help grow businesses.
Malcolm will explain that producers should be proud to demonstrate the high standards adhered to within the industry. He details how this can be achieved through providing the wider media with facts and information. “Quotes, anecdotes and contributions from leading producers will equip the media with the right information to positively influence consumers,” he notes.
“Context is very important to help build trust with the consumer. It is the whole industry’s responsibility to not only rear pigs and poultry in the best way possible, but to educate and explain to the media and consumers how the industry operates.”
Chairing this forum is Meurig Raymond, NFU’s new president, who is fully aware of the power of the media. “This forum will provide the perfect platform for generating industry enthusiasm in utilising the media at a time when agriculture is so far up the news agenda.”
The Fair is highly valued by producers, with 74% of visitors to the 2012 Fair planning to make changes to their business following their visit. A recent survey showed that a staggering 85% of producers plan to attend this year’s Fair who will find the 2014 ‘growing your business’ forums focused on helping producers achieve sustainable business growth by overcoming key issues. The topics to be covered include achieving successful planning applications; reducing energy costs on farm; raw material security and industry outlooks for both the pig and poultry sectors.
A vital debate taking place on the Tuesday, is how the pig and poultry sectors can secure part of the £90 million government fund to drive future innovations and rebuild the connection between basic research and applied science.
