The inauguration was attended by over 40 high-ranking guests, including representatives from the FAO, Ministry of Agriculture of China, GTZ, DGRV, German Embassy, China Agricultural Machinery Testing Center, China Animal Agricultural Association (CAAA), Agritechnica exhibitor Lovol, AEM China, TUI and CLAAS China as well as Chinese agricultural media.
Former Vice-Minister of Agriculture and current CAAA President Zhang Bao Wen welcomed guests and emphasised the important partnership between Germany and China commenting: “Here we see an example of the welcome cooperation between Chinese and German agriculture and its creation of new opportunities in food production through information exchange and technology. We welcome the DLG initiatives in forming bridges between their members’ business interests and the agricultural market in China and in this way contributing to bilateral cooperation. “
The new office will further strengthen DLG exhibitions as well as its agricultural activities in China as well as its cooperation with Chinese partners from government, professional associations, research institutes, industries and other sectors. The new office and its activities are managed by Leely Zhang, an MA graduate in agricultural engineering. In her management post Ms Leely draws on her previous experience gained with United Nations Asian and the Pacific Center for Agricultural Engineering as well as her extensive network of contacts within Chinese agriculture.
The DLG first started in China in 2004 with the exhibition agriChina, which was jointly organised with Deutsche Messe AG, opening its independent subsidiary DLG Agro Tech Service in 2007. Since then, DLG has forged a strong network within the Chinese agricultural community and organised a series of successful events, together with Chinese partners, addressing topics such as food safety, farming efficiency and pig production.
“I am very happy with our progress in China over the last three years and I would like to thank our partnersfor their continuous and ambitious support of DLG's work,” said DLG chairman of International Cooperation Karl-Martin Lüth who handed over responsibility for DLG AgroTech Service Beijing to Bernd Koch, the managing director of DLG-Agriservice at the inauguration of the DLG office.
“Just like forums for agricultural professionals and the professional testing of food and innovations, agricultural exhibitions are a key focus for DLG. With this now fully operational office we are in an even better position to serve our customers. We are delighted with the collaboration we have established with the Chinese ministry and our other partners, which has already resulted in several successful events both in Europe and China, “ noted Koch.
In addition to looking after Chinese-German cooperation projects like the Sino-German Demonstration Farm Ganhe, DLG is planning a number of future agricultural events in China - events such as the European Poultry Club’s Congress on 7 July held in Beijing jointly organised with Chinese Animal Agriculture Association (CAAA).
