PIGWEB’S Transnational Access (TNA) program ensures free access to top-quality European pig research installations. With a budget of 1.5 million euros, the program provides external researchers from the academic and private sectors with easy and transparent access to the partners’ infrastructures. A total of 28 research installations offer TNA, including feed mills, barns, different pig breeds and lines, calorimeters, metabolic cages, abattoirs, scanners, recording systems, and laboratories.

First and second call

The first and second TNA calls, launched in September 2021 and 2022, were a great success. 48 proposals were submitted, with 20 in the 1st and 28 in the 2nd call. A wide range of research topics were addressed, with a strong interest in performance, emissions, calorimetry, respirometry, feed production, and genome and transcriptome analysis. Nineteen proposals (7 from the 1st call and 12 from the 2nd call), accounting for 67% of the total TNA budget, were selected for TNA. TNA users are from various countries, including Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Israel, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, China, and the USA. A total of 20 different TNA installations will be used to address the proposed research questions in the selected projects. Most projects use only one experimental installation, while five projects combine the expertise of two or three.

Third call

Does the PIGWEB TNA program trigger you? Do topics like calorimetry, feed efficiency, or computed tomography catch your attention? We are pleased to announce that the third and final call is live. We welcome your proposals and look forward to hearing from you. For more information on the available installations, eligibility criteria, and procedures to follow, please visit https://www.pigweb.eu/call-for-proposals. If you have any questions regarding the proposal submission process or need advice on the most suitable research installation, the TNA Management Team can assist you. Use the contact form on the project website to contact the team or join our TNA helpdesk on October 2nd.
