A free gauge to measure slat gaps is being offered to UK pig farmers by Suffolk-based equipment manufacturer, Quality Equipment, to help them comply with the EU welfare directive which came into effect on 1st January 2013.
“Slats, particularly concrete ones, can become damaged or worn with age, particularly in heavily used areas,” commented Quality Equipment director, Graham Baker. “Farmers whose slats gaps exceed the apertures specified risk failing their farm assurance inspections.”
The handy, pocked-sized, stainless-steel gauge, with 14mm 16mm 18mm 20mm and 22mm graduations, enables farmers or stockmen to check slat gaps in various parts of their piggeries quickly and easily without fiddling with tapes or rulers.
