The global swine industry increasingly relies on vaccination. With a total market value of 525 Mio € in 2008 vaccines have become the most important health management tool for modern pig production (Vetnosis Ltd, March 2009). The driver of this growth are vaccines against Porcine Circovirus Type 2 (PCV2) which have quickly become a standard vaccination in all major markets alongside Mycoplasma vaccination programmes. The size of the PCV2- vaccine market is close to 180 Mio €. With total sales of 90 Mio € Boehringers Ingelvac CircoFLEX® was the global market leader in this segment last year (Animal Pharm, April 2009 and Boehringer Ingelheim).
