In this year’s Asian Pig Veterinary Society congress, HIPRA has presented excellent results of its PRRS vaccines AMERVAC® and UNISTRAIN® PRRS against several Asian PRRS strains. The company consolidates its positioning as the Reference in Prevention for Animal Health.
Last September, HIPRA participated at APVS 2013 as Premium Sponsor in Ho Chi Min City, demonstrating its commitment to the swine sector with a special focus on PRRS, nowadays the most important disease for the swine industry worldwide. More than 1,000 delegates from several Asian Countries attended the congress, so this APVS has been a real success.
During the days of the meeting, HIPRA offered a programme of activities to the invited delegates. The HIPRA guests coming from China, Taiwan, Thailand, The Philippines, Korea and Vietnam were not only able to enjoy the congress but the city and the Mekong Delta as well.
The scientific activities included the HIPRA PRRS SATELLITE SYMPOSIUM called “PRRS CONTROL and PREVENTION: Asian approach and ExPRRSrience”.
The Symposium moderated by Dani Torrents (Corporate Swine Technical Services) included 3 speakers. The first speech was presented by Dr. Roongroje Thanawongnuwech (Chulalongkorn University, Thailand) and he explained to the more than 300 attendees, the current situation and the impact of the Highly Pathogenic PRRS strains in some Asian countries. Then Dr. Thanh Long (Assoc. Professor Director of the National Center for Veterinary Diagnosis, Hanoi) shared with the audience the excellent results obtained by AMERVAC®PRRS in an experimental trial conducted at their facilities. The conclusions of his study were that AMERVAC®PRRS was completely safe and efficacious against two highly pathogenic PRRS virus isolated in Vietnam. The immune response induced by the vaccine had a positive impact in the challenged piglets by reducing the severity of the disease and increasing the average body weight.
Dr. Young S. Lyoo gave the last speech (Konkuk University Korea) and he showed the results obtained with UNISTRAIN®PRRS in farms infected with genotype 1 (European) PRRS strains, farms infected with genotype 2 (American) PRRS strains and farms co-infected with both genotypes. His conclusions of these trials performed in South Korea showed that the vaccine is safe and is able to induce a high level of neutralizing antibodies which means heterologous protection against both genotypes.
In addition, HIPRA took part at APVS 2013 by presenting several posters such as efficacy results of SUISENG® (neonatal diarrhoea vaccine) in The Philippines and 2 oral presentations about recent topics in swine production, pseudorrabies and Glässer’s disease.
This AVPS 2013 has been an excellent opportunity to show the Asian scientific community the results of HIPRA´s PRRS vaccines (AMERVAC®PRRS & UNISTRAIN®PRRS) and their safety and efficacy under experimental and field conditions in Asia.
By participating in this APVS 2013, HIPRA states its commitment to help improve swine health prevention knowledge at an international level.
