ACMCYorkshire pig farmer Ian Broumpton has scored a hat-trick by winning the Supreme Championship for the third time in succession with a pen of five cutter pigs at the Hull Market Christmas Show and Sale.

He also exhibited the best pen of bacon pigs which went on to take Reserve Championship. This was the second time he scooped the Reserve Championship.

He breeds his own AC1 gilts from grandparent stock, which are served by ACMC’s EC (extreme conformation) boars or AI

The cutters and baconers — which averaged 82 kg and 105 kg liveweight respectively — he says, were simply picked out of the finishing pens the day before the show and given a good wash.

On a day-to-day basis the finishers are sent to Cranswick Country Foods at 80-85 kg where their probe measurements average 11mm. He also supplies pork to two local outlets, James White butchers at Hutton Cranswick and the Dacre Arms pub at Brandesburton.

Ian Broumpton is no stranger to awards, having picked up the Small Business Pig Farmer of the Year award from Pig and Poultry Marketing magazine earlier this year.
