Today, weighing is done manually. It is a hard, heavy and dangerous task which increases stress for the animals. But it is necessary as finishing at the right weight is vital for the farmer's economy. The product Pig Scale, a digital camera solution weighs pigs automatically for a consistent and more accurate finishing weight. Our new algorithms and self-learning systems through IBM's Dr Watson make the system fast, robust and cost effective.
The camera, set up in the ceiling of the pig pens, automatically photographs the pigs several times each day. The data (ie photos) is sent to IBM's cloud for processing, reading and valuation. The finisher producer receives daily updates regarding the pig's size and weight and can take measures for pigs which are too large or grow too slowly. The system also provides estimated dates when pigs are expected to achieve optimal weight for finishing.
“Monitoring and analyzing the breeding process continuously will optimize when the pigs are ready for finishing. It maximizes the payment and greatly benefit our profitability," says Per Eke Göransson, a former finisher producer who is the innovator behind the Pig Scale.
Pig Scale helps the producer keep track of the finisher pigs entire growth period and has many advantages:
- It improves the process by streamlining production and thus significantly improving the environment
- Daily updates can optimize feed content and consumption and also project date of finish
- High accuracy makes sure the pigs end up in the best paid weight group
- Reduces stress for the pigs
- A better working environment.
Pig Scale will be demonstrated at the EuroTier fair in Hanover, hall 16 stand E06. Sales begin early next year.
