How can pig behavioral requirements affect housing in the future? How can antimicrobial resistance affect the welfare of animals for farming? What will the pig welfare demands be in the next 30 years? These are some questions that will be answered by some of the most important animal welfare experts worldwide, during the IPVS2020 Congress, from June 2nd to 5th, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
On June 2nd, four specialists will be heading the pre-congress “Pig welfare demands in the year 2050”. Dr. Inger Lise Andersen, from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, will discuss “Behavioral needs in pigs and how we can meet those needs when designing future housing systems”. Professor Mark Holmes, from Cambridge University shall deal with “Antimicrobial resistance, a one welfare challenge for pig farming”. Professor Carlos Guerrero-Bosagna, from the Linkoping University, will discuss “Towards the development of epigenetic marks of stress and welfare in farm animals”. The section will also have the contribution of professor Adroaldo José Zanella, from São Paulo University, who will discuss “Pig research will help human and human research will help pigs in the year 2050”.
