Jyden participates at the British Pig & Poultry Fair in May 2014 – proudly presenting the JLF10 SWAP for the British audience. The JLF10 SWAP is a pen for loose nursing sows, including a special feature for keeping the sow in a crate during the first critical days right after farrowing.
More and more conventional pig farmers are setting new standards for animal welfare and pig production in general. Due to legislation and consumer demands, the pig sector needs to find new and modern ways of pig production.
Danish experience
In Denmark we are met with a lot of interest in our new JLF10 SWAP farrowing pen for loose nursing sows and we are supplying many of these pens now. One of them is the Danish pig producer, Niels Aage Arve who has built new housing units for a total of 1250 sows. Mr. Niels Aage Arve has chosen the design of the farrowing pens for loose nursing sows in all units. Out of 350 farrowing pens, 210 are equipped so that the sow can walk freely around during the entire period – this is the well-known farrowing pen JLF10 from Jyden. The remaining 140 pens are made with the JLF10 SWAP which has an integrated wing inside the pen that can secure the sow for the first three to four days after farrowing, meaning less mortality among the piglets. So far, the pig producers have good experience with the JLF10 SWAP – it is userfriendly for the staff and provides optimal welfare for both the sow and the piglets.
Known worldwide
In regards to the farrowing pens for loose nursing sows, Jyden is a well-known name worldwide.
"During the last 15-20 years we have developed and produced farrowing pens for the Swedish and the Norwegian markets, and with these experiences in mind, we know what will benefit pig production. So to speak, we do not need to make new ideas each day as we know that our farrowing pens will fulfill the need in the best possible way – and with good results!”, says Mr. John Kongsgaard, Area Sales Manager for Jyden.
Besides Norway and Sweden, Jyden has exported free farrowing pens to Germany, Poland, Austria – and latest to Australia with 420 JLF10 SWAP pens for two projects. In consideration the Australian market is quite similar to the British market with a high demand from the consumers, focusing on welfare and a safe production environment for the pigs.
Quality is essential
ith this kind of production the JLF10 and the JLF10 SWAP meet the requirements, standards and trends of animal welfare which will help to affect the demand for pork significantly.
“I believe that this kind of pig production is the future. The consumer is becoming more aware of animal welfare – with a sharp focus on the facilities of pig production to make sure that the pigs are having a good life before ending their story on the dining table. As a consumer, we are very aware of quality. Quality for pig production means quality for the product that we buy and eat”, says John Kongsgaard.
