On May 22, 2017 Lallemand Biotech Co., Ltd. organized a technical meeting gathering around 70 swine farmers and feed manufacturers in Kagoshima, in the South West of the island of Kyushu, Japan. This area, located in the south of the country, leads the swine industry with 30% of the national production.
The seminar was dedicated to heat stress in swine, trying to highlight the origins and the consequences of the phenomenon, and looking at some management practices that can help cope with this issue.
As swine expert, David Saornil DVM, Swine Product Manager at Lallemand Animal Nutrition, introduced the concept and gave some information about a recent heat stress survey conducted by Lallemand Animal Nutrition. Then, Pierre Lebreton from Even Nutrition (France), discussed suitable swine feed formulations to compensate for heat stress negative impact on performance. To finish, Vincent Couture, Swine Brand Manager at Lallemand Animal Nutrition presented some trials showing the ability of live yeast LEVUCELL SB to help sows face heat stress conditions and maintain animal performances during the hot seasons.
All attenders were enthusiastic to acquire useful information regarding on-farm heat stress management. Thank you to all attendees, guest speakers from Europe and organizers for this successful seminar!
