From a pig farming background, Jason completed formal qualifications in pig production and management at Bishop Burton Agricultural College in East Yorkshire.
He then spent 20 years managing a pig unit in Oxfordshire before jumping ships into the supply sector with sales roles in pig genetics and then feed additives. Jason has also spent time as a farm assurance scheme manager, learning the ropes of various assessment schemes including Red Tractor farm assurance for pig units.
“I’m especially enthusiastic about pig nutrition and improving performance through better diets and feeding management,” he says. Feed accounts for 70% of pig production costs, so if we improve feed conversion rates then overall unit efficiency and profitability will improve.”
And he adds that better feed utilisation has an important part to play on the environmental impact of all livestock production. “So it’s even more important that we monitor and measure our feed efficiency and look to make the necessary dietary improvements, both for the unit’s well-being and for the sustainability of the whole sector.”
Jason is based from his home in Staffordshire and will support Cargill key accounts and the UK pig sales team.
