Novus returns to BOKU to present the latest scientific findings in sow nutrition with a poster on how chelated trace minerals can improve the reproduction parameters and longevity. The poster shows the results of a 2-year field trial in which 125,000 sows were involved in more of 82 farms. The key findings shed light on the benefits of sows fed with MINTREX®: “The exclusive MINTREX® Reduce and ReplaceTM Strategy helps to improve the reproductive performance and culling rates while achieving better litter performance”, explained Sven Keller, senior technical services managerGut Health EMEA.

In the field of animal nutrition, trace minerals are getting more and more attention due to their fundamental role on fertility and proper skeletal development. Due to the low bioavailability of inorganic forms such as sulfide and oxides, organic trace mineral compounds have been developed further to improve the stability of the molecule and to increase the uptake of the trace minerals in the digestive tract.

Organic trace minerals also play an important role in reducing the impact in the environment through less excretion of minerals. This reduction suggests that supplying more bioavailable trace minerals is beneficial not only for the performance of the sows and her progeny, but also providing important a relevant reduction on the environmental footprint.

The BOKU Symposium Animal Nutrition is a yearly event traditionally held in-person. This year the conference will be digital to ensure accessibility to the greatest number of people in the best conditions. This edition will take place April 15th and will be focused on the several aspects related to the holistic approach of animal nutrition involving animal welfare and environment protection. The Symposium organized by the Institute of Animal Nutrition, Livestock Products and Nutrition Physiology of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, is one of the largest scientific conferences in animal nutrition.

The poster will be available here.
