After the recent strategical agreement between PIC and Sergal, the synergies of both companies result in the successful expansion of the boar stud / GTC (Genetic transfer center) called Riufred to a capacity of almost 530 places for boars of highest genetic merit.

The GTC is located in a privileged environment in the pre-Pyrenees mountains, which helps maintaining PIC's high biosecurity standards. It will be supervised by PIC's Technical team and the Health Assurance team who ensure that any source in the global supply chain network meets highest standards of quality and safety.

The current expansion consists in a new building with a capacity of 264 additional boars.

The Riufred GTC will house primarilyPIC408 and PIC800 terminal boars, and will reach its full capacity in September 2021.

With the increased populations to produce PIC Terminal sires for the Iberian peninsula local producers will benefit from a greater availability of high indexed boars, especially from the ProfitPlus and ProfitMax categories.

The fulfilment of this project represents another milestone in our expansion plan for affiliated GTCs.

Wilson Pineda, Commercial Director for Southern Europe commented: “We are really satisfied with the first months operating the Sergal boar studs, customer feedback has been highly positive and this fact encourages us to continue investing our efforts to support the market in the best way. This expansion is part of this plan, as with it we will increase to a bigger extend the semen availability of our high genetic value boars”.

Stay tuned for further updates on the PIC website and on this channel during the upcoming weeks. Reach out to your PIC contact for further information.
