Water is an important, but also a difficult factor in pig production. In some regions, the water quality is not sufficient; in other areas, management of the slurry that mainly consists of water is a great challenge for farmers. Big Dutchman has now developed a drinker that for the very first time has been designed in a way that pigs drink the entire amount of water, without losses. Playing with the drinking water and thus wasting it is no longer possible. Tests from practical life confirm that pig producers can reduce water consumption and slurry amounts by ten percent with the new, water-saving Big Dutchman drinker – while the performance of finishers remains the same! Big Dutchman, the pig equipment supplier from Vechta, presents this innovation for the first time ever at EuroTier 2018.
“The pigs need to take the entire nipple into their mouth to be able to actuate it. This ensures that no water is lost,” explains product manager Tobias Blauth. “Additionally, we have equipped the nipple with a protective collar so that pigs cannot activate it from the side to use it as a toy.”
