Smithfield Foods' Michael Skahill Elected to U.S.-China Agriculture & Food Partnership Board

Michael P. Skahill, vice president of global affairs for Smithfield Foods, has been elected to the board of directors of the U.S.-China Agriculture & Food Partnership (AFP).

AFP was created in 2013 with the support of both the U.S. and Chinese governments to serve as the key public-private sector coordinator for bilateral food and agriculture cooperation.

AFP links U.S. and Chinese public, private and non-governmental organizations across the agriculture and food supply chain to advance mutual food security, food safety and sustainability goals by promoting cooperation and best practices between the United States and China.

As vice president of global affairs for Smithfield, Skahill plays a key role in driving forward and supporting the work already underway in the development of policies and strategies to engage governments, multilateral organizations and other key stakeholders in international markets that are strategic to Smithfield Foods. Skahill joined Smithfield in 1998 and has also served in key international sales functions, most recently as vice president of international sales until April 2013.

Prior to joining Smithfield, Skahill had 13 years of international meat merchandising and trading experience with the Louis Dreyfus Corporation, the United States Meat Export Federation and Cargill, Inc. He holds a degree from Iowa State University and is a native of Dubuque, Iowa. Skahill lives with his family in Williamsburg, Virginia.
