Swine Innovation Porc: New board member appointed

The Board of Directors of Swine Innovation Porc currently counts nine members, eight of which are continuing for a second term.

 Swine Innovation PorcSwine Innovation Porc would like to welcome a new member representing Ontario Pork. Beth Clark will be taking over for Jean Howden. She was appointed at the Board of Directors meeting before the opening of the Banff Pork Seminar in Banff, Alberta.

Beth is currently Chair of the Ontario Pork Research Committee and has served nine years on the Ontario Pork Board including two years on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Pork Council. She is also a Director on the Board of Farm and Food Care Ontario, in regard to animal welfare and the environment and sits as a member to the Policy Advisory Councils of each sector. She, her husband, two sons and families operate a 3-site hog production unit in Shanty Bay, Ontario.

We would also like to underline the dedication and exemplary work of Jean Howden who was a precious collaborator from the very beginning. Our sincere appreciation goes out to her for all the work that she did over the course of her mandate.

  • Neil Ketilson, representing the Saskatchewan Pork Development Board
  • Jean-Paul Laforest, Chair of the Science Advisory Body
  • Claude Miville, representing the Quebec pork sector
  • Normand Martineau, pork producer representing the Fédération des producteurs de porcs du Québec
  • Daryl Possberg, pork producer representing the Alberta Pork Industry Services
  • Mike Teillet, representing the Manitoba Pork Council
  • John Webb, representing the Pork Value Chain Roundtable

Claude Miville, Stewart Cressman and Neil Ketilson were re-elected Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer respectively.

On this occasion, Mr. Miville declared that “The challenge for 2013 is to ensure the smooth transition from the research program which ends March 31, 2013 to the new program that takes over from April of the same year. At the same time, Swine Innovation will deploy its strategic planning to intervene on key issues in the Canadian pork industry.”

Swine Innovation is a corporation of the Canadian Pork Council committed to facilitate research, technology transfer and commercialization initiatives designed to enhance the profitability and differentiation of the Canadian pork value chain. Our program consists of 14 research projects focused on reducing the cost of production and product differentiation. It also includes three technology transfer initiatives.

Swine Innovation (Canadian Swine Research and Development Cluster) is funded through the Growing Canadian Agri-Innovations program – Canadian Agri-Science Clusters Initiative along with financial support from the private sector and other provincial government organizations.
