A wide-ranging technical programme has been announced for the first edition of EuroTier China, which takes place in the city of Qingdao from 19th to 21st September this year. Specialist conferences for the dairy sector; swine sector; animal feed and nutrition; animal health and food safety; animal breeding; and biogas have already been organised together with the China’s Ministry of Agriculture.

Taking place at the Qingdao International Convention & Exhibition Centre, in eastern China’s Shandong province, the new trade fair is one of three new EuroTier-branded events to take place during 2019 outside Germany, where the parent exhibition – EuroTier – was established in 1973. During the past 46 years, the German Agricultural Society (DLG), has developed EuroTier into the world’s most professional and most extensive animal husbandry trade fair. In 2018, it attracted 2,600 exhibitors and some 155,000 visitors – with more than 25% of these attending from outside Germany.

EuroTier China 2019 is jointly organised by China’s National Animal Husbandry Service (NAHS), the China Feed Industry Association, and the Beijing Tech Convention and Exhibition. The new exhibition will benefit from the DLG’s EuroTier brand, which offers a comprehensive overview of global topics and trends in modern animal husbandry in the pig, poultry and dairy sectors, corresponding cross-species inputs such as feed, and the closely related biogas sector. Many of the exhibitors that participated at EuroTier 2018 will be exhibiting at EuroTier China because they recognise an increasing need for tailored solution for the Chinese market. More than 200 Chinese businesses have also signed up so far.

Speaking at a press conference earlier this year to launch EuroTier China at the offices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Beijing, China, Shi Jianzhong, secretary of the Party Committee of the NAHS pointed out that China had been reforming and opening up for more than 40 years. The country’s agricultural and rural areas had undergone historic changes, and had achieved remarkable achievements and provided strong support for the overall economic and social development.

China's animal husbandry had experienced an evolution from small to large scale and from weak to strong, he added, but the sustained and rapid development of China's livestock farming sector had been inseparable from foreign cooperation and exchanges. In recent years, the leaders of China and Germany had conducted intergovernmental consultations on many occasions, and this had resulted in mutually beneficial cooperation in the development of animal husbandry.

“As long as we work together and share opportunities based on the concept of mutual benefit and win-win, the road of cooperation between China and Germany will be more and more broad and will surely bear fruit,” said Shi Jianzhong.

Also speaking at the press conference in Beijing, Yang Hongjie, director of the NAHS Development Department, announced that the first Livestock Breeding Summit Forum would be held in conjunction with EuroTier 2019. This will showcase and summarise the achievements and experience of China's livestock production sectors, and is expected to attract up to 1,000 participants including a variety of livestock and poultry enterprises, government departments and associations, experts, foreign guests and media.

EuroTier China 2019 will promote the intensive management of animal husbandry in China, encourage international cooperation and competition, expand the opening up of animal husbandry, and promote the "going out" strategy of China's animal husbandry. The exhibition will provide a platform for exchanges and co-operation between Chinese and foreign animal husbandry enterprises, bringing advanced livestock experience and technology from Europe to China, and put them in front of the Chinese livestock industry.

There is no doubt that the topic of African swine fever will be discussed in detail at EuroTier China 2019, although the rapidly changing picture with regards to the disease means it is too early to set any formal conference agenda on the topic. Strict biosecurity control will be in place to ensure that the trade fair itself does not become a vector for disease spread, as the event can play an important role in rebuilding the Chinese swine sector, which is the biggest in the world. An international effort will be required to replace lost breeding stock, and expertise will be needed to help build new swine farms and animal feed production facilities that can met the high biosecurity standards required to prevent future outbreaks of this devastating disease.

Biogas production, which is closely aligned to livestock farming thanks to its role in agricultural waste treatment, has been increasing year-after-year in China, and the sector’s 13th development plan seeks to deploy more than 3,000 large-scale biogas plants across the country. It is not surprising, therefore, that biogas will feature prominently at EuroTier China. The trade fair will feature a dedicated biogas pavilion, where visitors can explore the Chinese Biogas market and interact with the sector’s leading associations and experts. The China Biogas Conference, taking place at the exhibition venue on 19th/20th September 2019 will help everyone involved in this important industry to stay up to date with the latest trends and innovations.

The organisers of EuroTier China 2019 said the event will be based on the present, but will look to the future. It will promote exchanges and co-operation in industry experience and technology in the livestock sector at home and abroad, serving exhibitors, visitors and the global animal farming industry. The intention is to build EuroTier China into a modern, international, professional and trade-oriented high-end brand exhibition for animal husbandry.
