The much coveted prize was awarded to the specialists for pig farming from Lower Saxony (Germany) in the context of the leading trade fair for animal husbandry, SPACE, in the French city of Rennes. The cover for the tank ventilation of feed tanks won over the specialist jury, among other things, as it keeps the feed kitchen dust-free when dosing feed into liquid feeding systems.

At WEDA, the responsible parties are both honored and happy after the decision of the specialist jury: “The award is a clear signal that with this cost-efficient innovation we are able to offer our customers precisely the right solution for their need”, summarized Ralf Meyer, WEDA head of development.

Dust Control prevents development of dust

In today’s pig feeding, aeration and ventilation of feed tanks is effected via a pipe. As such, flour dust escapes outside the tank through the ventilation pipe. Dust Control, on the other hand, prevents the dust development unfavourable to the house staff during the dosing of the liquid feed. “In this, a novel cover provides for venting in the feed tank and, as a result, keeps the feed kitchen dust-free by up to 95 percent”, explains Ralf Meyer.

Significant reduction of workload

Furthermore, this innovation is economically advantageous: the reduced dust development leads to a significant reduction of the workload for the house staff since the feed kitchen is less frequently in need of cleaning. In addition, WEDA emphasizes that Dust Control is low-maintenance and reliable, easy to clean, and ultimately very hygienic. So the bottom line is that the WEDA development constitutes a solution equally helpful for both humans and animals.

The special characteristics and advantages of Dust Control at a glance:

  • Dust development in the feed kitchen is reduced by ca. 95%
  • As such, a significant reduction in time and effort for house staff since the feed kitchen requires cleaning much less frequently.
  • Significantly lower adverse health effects for the house staff due to the considerable dust reduction
  • Low maintenance and reliable
  • Easy to clean and hygienic
  • Cost-efficient.
