Active NS additive for slurry

Active NS is a 100% natural product composed primarily of three different types of pre-processed clay minerals. This unique combination gives the product exceptionally high ion exchange.

Active NS powder works on the principle of negatively and positively charged ion exchange. This binds the ammonia to the slurry, which greatly reduces the amount of ammonia vapor. The product also has a positive effect on the slurry when agitated, producing a more homogeneous and easier-to-handle mass.

Active NS Facts:
In 2015, FORCE Technology (one of the leading international technology consulting companies) carried out sample collection and analysis in a Danish pig housing unit, with Active NS added to the slurry.

FORCE Technology reached to the conclusion that Active NS reduces odor emissions in the housing unit  by 38% and ammonia emissions by 45% per 1000 kg of pigs.

Start with the slurry pond
Add 20 g of Active NS for every m³ of slurry in the pond.

Always vigorously shake the slurry to which Active NS has been added before starting to discharge the slurry from the pits. Otherwise, the effect will be less than expected.

It is recommended to place the slurry agitator in five different locations in the tank during agitation, so that all the sediment is well mixed into the floating mass.

Continue at the housing units

With the channels and pits empty of slurry, add 1 or 2 slurries. 2 times 20 g of Active NS per cubic meter of slurry expected in the next discharge. Active NS will continue to operate until the next emptying.

If you consistently use Active NS in canals and pits, there's no need to add extra product to the slurry pond. Active NS can be mixed with water and poured into the pits every time the slurry channels are emptied.

Every time the pigs are removed from the pens, Active NS can be applied directly into the pits and mixed with water during cleaning.

Adding Active NS to the slurry is really worth it

After we started adding Active NS to the slurry, we achieved a higher proportion of dry matter.

"The economic value of the slurry is not insignificant, and I have documented evidence that it is a good business, because the dry matter content has increased month after month."

"From an economic point of view, this means that, after deducting the cost of using Active NS, I made money using the product because the result was a higher yield for the biogas producer."

Active NS generates huge savings

When Anders Rahbek built a pig farm for 8,000 fattening pigs, did so on one condition: he had to install a biological air purification system to ensure a 7% reduction in ammonia evaporation.

However, the pig farmer avoided having to invest in a very expensive air purification system. Instead, he requested and obtained an extension to use Active NS, a slurry additive. He thus managed to avoid a major investment in an air purification system when the contract ended in 2014. the construction of his pig farm.

“In our opinion, Active NS is a much cheaper solution, as the outlay is approximately 25% of the cost of an air purifier,” explains Anders Rahbek.

On Anders Rahbek's pig farm, FORCE Technology measured odor and ammonia emissions were measured in two separate rooms on the farm, one of which used Active NS to reduce ammonia evaporation.

The results showed that Active NS significantly reduced both odor and ammonia emissions throughout the measurement period.
