THRIVE AND SURVIVE
At Danish Genetics, we aim for a higher animal survivability, with a special attention to our piglets. Litter size is important, but it is only meaningful if the piglets thrive.
We make individual birth weight registrations, as we aspire for more uniform birth weight in the litters. We also monitor their survival as we focus on their robustness and vitality; while paying close attention to their mother’s parenting abilities, including functional teats and litter uniformity.
For a sustainable production, it is relevant to “double check” the viability of our piglets: at day 1 to avoid still- and weakborn, and again before weaning, at day 21. With our Index Update 2023, we focus more on survivability, but with continued attention to litter size.
Animal welfare, prolificacy & viability… with less sows needed for the same output produced.
