A game-changer in the industry starting with automatic condition scoring in gestation?
By Arno van Brandenburg
Business Development Manager (Pig Division) at Nedap.
Condition of sows is important. Good condition is given more productivity (piglets born alive). This can be done with Back Fat measurement/Calliper and other tools. Weighing would be suitable but takes too much time. Now Nedap did automate this. This is done every day automatically. On a 1700 sow farm, we have 2710 automatic week weights in 3 month, not dependent on your personal, is this not incredible.
Below is a screen with weight development of first parity sows.
These data points give very interesting material for further analyses.
One of the analyses done is shown in the graph below, you see the growth of the gilts in pregnancy and her production of liveborn piglets.
The next steps for automation are there.
In the video, you see 4 automatic condition scoring units (weight samplers) in 1200 gestation sow barn.
