Mr Didier Guillaume, Ministry of Agriculture and Food of France, visited Meurthe-et-Moselle last Thursday, March 28th, for the laying of the last kilometres of the fence whose goal is to avoid the possible entry of African swine fever in France.
The Minister has asked for the creation of a third white area within the fenced zone as a protection shield where drastic wild boar culling measures, as well as additional restrictions regarding professional forestry tasks or recreational activities, will be implemented, just as they have been implemented in Ardennes and Moselle. Nevertheless, some professional activities shall be authorised through exemptions.
The ASF threat is still real, and the wild boars are just a few kilometres away from the border. During this week, more than 100 km of fixed fences will have been laid in the three departments of Ardennes, Meuse and Meurthe-et-Moselle to protect all the French territory.
