The animal welfare report recently published by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration shows that the proportion of visits that triggered a sanction in 2022 is smaller than the previous year, but remains high.

The penalty rate for cattle herds fell from 46% in 2021 to 40% in 2022, while for pig herds it fell from 31% to 30%. This sanction percentage is still at a level which, according to Food Minister Jacob Jensen, confirms the importance of Denmark's first animal welfare agreement to improve animal welfare.

In 2022, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration carried out animal welfare checks in 1692 herds in connection with the ordinary checks. This is an increase from 1033 visits in 2021.
