The National Service of Agri-Food Health and Quality (SENASA) of Argentina has launched an app (“SENASA notifications”) for mobile devices to facilitate the notification of health events, in cases of a suspicion of a notifiable animal disease, to this organization by producers, private veterinarians or the general public.
This will enable a quick response by the SENASA to avoid the risk on the entry of exotic diseases into Argentina and to take measures against the spreading of existing diseases, this allowing an improvement in the sensitivity of the national surveillance system.
The launching of the app goes hand in hand with a substantial change in the current regulations, that includes the updating of Resolution SENASA No. 422/2003, that identifies the 135 notifiable diseases, classifying the diseases regarding their importance bearing in mind criteria such as their presence or not in Argentina, their distribution, the risk for public health and the importance for the international trade. Likewise, it establishes the measures that will have to be taken in each of the cases and the frequency of their notification.
The app will work under the Android operating system. To use it, the users will have to download the app from the mobile devices' Play Store.
