In the meeting held, the Minister of Agro-industry, Mr Luis Miguel Etchevehere, underlined that “We are building a new stage in our bilateral relationships, making a qualitative leap in terms of trade, investments and cooperation. The Argentinian pig sector is going through a transformation process that encompasses several aspects related to the incorporation of technology and with the resulting increase in productivity being in line with what the world, and especially China, requests us.”

Currently, the Argentinian pig sector is going through a transformation process that encompasses several aspects related to the incorporation of technology and to the resulting increase in productivity. The efficiency levels on the farms have grown through the improvement of genetics, the premises, nutrition, health and the incorporation of management programs that have been key in this process.

So far this year, almost 3 million pigs have been slaughtered, with a growth by 3.4% in the year-to-year figures. Likewise, the production (tonnes in carcass weight) exceeds 258,000: +5% in the year-to-year values (January-May 2018 vs the same period in 2019). Lastly, pork exports exceeded, in this same period, 7,586 tonnes: +53% in comparison with 2018 in terms of volume.
