The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) gave its official recognition as a foot-and-mouth disease-free area in which vacination is not performed to the region of Patagonia Norte A in the framework of the 82nd General Session of the World Meeting that was held in Paris (France).

Currently, Argentina also has the official recognition of the OIE as a foot-and-mouth disease-free country, with areas in which vaccination is performed and other areas in which it is not.

The recognition of Patagonia Norte A as free of foot-and-mouth disease improves the positioning of Argentina for the opening of markets in the processes of binational negotiations as, for instance, with the European Union, because the animals of the aforementioned region will enter the foot-and mouth-disease free market, which represents a competitive advantage. Also, this improvement in the health status opens up the possibility of investments in the stockbreeding sector in this region.
