The international recognition was delivered to the delegation of the National Service of Agri-food Health and Quality (SENASA), dependent on the Ministry of Agro-Industry of Argentina, that participates in the 86th General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates of the WOAH/OIE that has just been held in Paris (France).
Considering that CSF entails a health barrier for the export of pigs and their products, obtaining this international recognition is very important for the Argentinian pig production sector.
The last outbreak of this disease in Argentina was registered in 1999. Through the execution of the SENASA's National Control and Eradication Program, the disease was eradicated, and Argentina declared itself free of CSF in 2005.
Since then and until now, the SENASA, managed by Mr Ricardo Negri, carries out active and passive epidemiologic surveillance activities that show that Classical Swine Fever is not present in Argentina. These measures, together with the prevention activities to avoid its entrance in the country were the most relevant requirements achieved to obtain this international recognition, pursuant to article 15.2.3 of the WOAH/OIE's Terrestrial Code.
