Due to the decrease in soybean production, Argentina's raw material import needs are increasing in order to keep mills running.

The Rosario Stock Exchange (BCR) in its latest monthly report, Strategic Guide for Agriculture (GEA) cut the 2022/23 soybean crop estimate to 21.5 million tons (Mt), the lowest production since the 1999/00 season.

It is estimated that total soybean crush (including extraction by pressing and solvents) will not exceed 27 Mt, the worst figure in the last 20 years, which will possibly dethrone Argentina as the world's leading supplier of soybean meal.

Part of the raw material for the mills will be imported from neighboring countries. Total imports for the 2022/23 season ( April-March) are estimated at 10.7 Mt, a historical record for Argentina.

In April alone, soybean exports from Brazil to Argentina exceeded half a million tons, while another million tons were imported from Paraguay.
