Argentina: Increase in pork imports in September

The highest pork import volume since November 2022 was reached in September, while exports rebounded to 1,500 tons.

Imports

Pork imports in the January-September period reached 9,684 tons, representing USD 30.9 million, a decrease in volume of 34.0% compared to the same period in 2023.

Specifically in September, the imported product totaled 2,552 tons, an increase of 174.9% compared to the same month of the previous year and 118.4% compared to August. This is the highest monthly volume since November 2022 (2,626 tons).

Exports

Cumulative pork exports in the first nine months of the year increased by 35.1% compared to the same period in 2023, going from 8,406 to 11,359 tons. Export value (USD 11.5 million) increased by 48.6% for the period.

In September, 1,501 tons of pork were exported, representing an increase of 35.7% over the same month of 2023 and 23.0% over August.

Trade balance

Given the significant increase in imports recorded in the last month, the balance of trade deficit for the pig farming sector in September was USD 5.9 million, while the cumulative figure for the year is USD 19.4 million, which is 50.9% lower than the deficit recorded in the January-September 2023 period (USD 39.6 million).
