The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Argentina reports that for the first time, the complete genome of a non-GMO soybean variety (not genetically modified) has been sequenced, which will make it possible to identify the mutations of this variety with respect to the world reference genome. This is key information for the development of molecular tools applied to the genetic improvement of the species.

The advancement, which was made by a research team from INTA Marcos Juárez, Córdoba and INTA Rafaela, Santa Fe, will make it possible to gather the set of genetic information contained in a soybean variety developed in Argentina: INTA-FICA 5C k/lx, information that will be available online.

It should be noted that the research could also have an impact on plant breeders, especially by providing them with information to make more efficient soybean varieties with new characteristics.
