The Argentinian National Health and Food and Agriculture Quality Service (SENASA) is encouraging the creation of local interinstitutional committees for the prevention of zoonoses in the municipalities with the aim of studying the health problems in each municipality and to improve the thoroughness and the efficacy of the prevention and control programmes and policies.
This initiative suggests the tackling of health problems that involve players from different public organisms, so it is necessary that the committees are made up by representatives of all the sectors involved.
Apart from the SENASA, among the main institutions that should be included in these comittees we have: the Ministry of Agriculture, Stockbreeding and Fisheries; the INTA (Agriculture and Livestock Technology National Institute); the bromatology, production, public health, zoonoses, environment and household agriculture areas in the municipalities; the veterinary science/medicine associations; the local and the SENASA network laboratories; and other specific institutions in the regions and/or departments, as well as organizations that represent the producers.
